Custody and parenting time issues may arise as part of divorce proceedings, or as a separate issue between parents who are separated but not divorced, and also between unmarried couples. Mr. Gold is able to provide the personalized attention and legal experience needed to advise clients on important aspects of the proceedings, including:

• Evidence Gathering: Clients need to be made aware before the proceeding begins on the need to obtain solid evidence to corroborate their testimony, from such sources as e-mails, computer files, third party witnesses, police reports, video surveillance, and reports on family violence proceedings. Mr. Gold utilizes the services of private detectives experienced in family matters and process servers when appropriate.

• Interaction with the Children: During what can be very emotional and difficult proceedings, it is important to foster the mental and emotional well-being of the children, and to ensure that the client's relationship with them is not damaged during the proceedings.

• Relations with Guardian ad Litem: It is important for the client to know how to foster good relations with a Guardian ad Litem, who is often asked by the court to help investigate the situation from the child's perspective and make a recommendation to the court on the custody decision.

• Court Ordered Independent Evaluation: In many cases a court ordered independent evaluation will take place by a psychologist or social worker, and it is important for the client to know how to handle the interviewing and testing that is part of the evaluation.
