Gay and Lesbian Family Law Concerns
Howard A. Gold has been a strong advocate on behalf of clients from the gay and lesbian community in divorce and custody proceedings. He represents gay and lesbian spouses who are coming out of a traditional marriage, vigorously protecting their interests in the areas of custody and parenting time (visitation) and equitable division of property. He represented a partner in the first custody dispute in Georgia by parents of the same sex, in which both partners, through adoption, had legal rights to the child.
Sexual Victimization by Professionals or Family Members
For over ten years, Mr. Gold has represented clients who have been sexually abused by family members or by professionals responsible for their care. He has filed civil suits on their behalf against psychologists, psychiatrists, counselors, ministers, medical doctors, chiropractors, employers and other professionals that held any type of trust relationship with a client and then abused that trust.
Mr. Gold has represented approximately 50 clients in this area and has received money judgments in every case but one, in which the client passed away during litigation. He conducted a jury trial in Georgia in which the jury awarded money damages to a young woman who was sexually abused by her grandfather. This was the first time in Georgia that a victim was compensated in the civil courts for sexual abuse damages.
